DESCRIPTION:The York College of Pennsylvania Engineering Programs will be holding their first Order of the Engineer Induction Ceremony on Wednesday evening March 30th. We’d like to invite you to join us! \nThe Order is not a membership organization; there are never any meetings to attend or dues to pay. Instead\, the Order fosters a unity of purpose and the honoring of one’s pledge lifelong. The Obligation (http://order-of-the-engineer.org/about-the-order/obligation/) is a creed similar to the oath attributed to Hippocrates (460-377 B.C.) that is generally taken by medical graduates and which sets forth an ethical code. The Obligation likewise\, contains parts of the Canon of Ethics of major engineering societies. Initiates\, as they accept it voluntarily\, pledge to uphold the standards and dignity of the engineering profession and to serve humanity by making the best use of Earth’s precious wealth. More about the Order’s history can be found at http://order-of-the-engineer.org/about-the-order/history/. \nAs part of the Ceremony initiates receive a stainless-steel ring (worn on the fifth finger of their working hand)\, a certificate\, and pocket card. We will be holding the ceremony in the Waldner Performing Arts Center (WPAC) on the main campus of York College starting with a social time with cookies and dessert bars\, starting at 5:45 and the ceremony itself will begin at 6:30 PM. \nIf you are interested in participating in the ceremony please RSVP to Dr. Scott Hamilton (shamilton@ycp.edu) that you will be attending. SUMMARY:Tour of Yorktowne Hotel
DESCRIPTION:Built in 1925 in the Renaissance Revival style\, the 11-story Yorktowne Hotel was designed and constructed to be the cornerstone of hospitality in downtown York during a time of significant growth for the city. The hotel’s success warranted several expansions through the 1950’s. And over the following decades\, The Yorktowne would undergo several renovations but eventually fall victim to deferred maintenance and neglect. In 2016\, concerned about the worsening condition of the building and the underutilization of space\, the York County Industrial Development Authority (YCIDA)\, which champions redevelopment projects in York County\, purchased the hotel to restore it to its former glory and boost the city’s revitalization efforts. \n  \nCurrently under construction\, the highly anticipated and re-envisioned Yorktowne will reopen in 2022 under the Tapestry Collection by Hilton brand. When complete\, it will have a new grand entrance\, 123 modernized guest rooms\, a rooftop event space\, a full-service restaurant and café\, an improved lobby area\, and a completely restored grand ballroom. DESCRIPTION:Join us on Monday\, November 16\, 2020\, for the third membership meeting of the 2020-2021 program year for the Engineering Society of York and a tour of Kinsley Fabrication. \nKinsley’s Steel Division specializes in structural steel design\, engineering\, detailing\, fabrication\, erection\, and retrofit of existing structural members for clients across the mid-Atlantic region. Our team is AISC and PCI Certified\, and is a PennDOT Bulletin 15 fabricator. We take pride in our ability to provide clients with a full range of structural steel services through our four shops in Pennsylvania and Virginia where we fabricate over 60\,000 tons of structural steel each year. \nDue to the ongoing restrictions associated with gatherings and COVID-19\, registration will be capped at a total of 25 people for this event.
