Message from the President
Welcome to a new year of ESOY! I am excited and honored to take over the role of President, and I thank Andy Zmoda for his previous leadership. His guidance, along with the rest of the dedicated Board, was able to keep our organization active through the recent difficulties created by COVID.
Despite school shutdowns, I’m proud to say the Elementary Science Program for York County elementary students was able to continue through a virtual platform. This program is sponsored by ESOY and run by Jim Filizzi, a retired Dallastown Physics teacher.
Jim Filizzi worked hard to develop a series of interactive, web-based science lessons (available here) that were shared with thousands of students across the county. Fantastic work, Mr. Filizzi!
In addition to our continued support of numerous science and engineering programs throughout the county, the Edgar P. Kable Scholarship program was able to sponsor 17 college students with a $2,000 scholarship, distributing $34,000 to students in engineering or engineering related majors at post-secondary institutions. Between the Edgar P. Kable scholarships and ESOY sponsored events, our organization funded more than $57,000 worth of programs for York County students and engineers in our 2020-2021 program year.
I am extremely proud of the work that ESOY has done in the past and look forward to our future endeavors. Please feel free to contact me or any of the Board members with questions about ESOY. Thank you and I hope to see all of you at our upcoming meetings!
Nik Fritz, P.E.
Message from the Membership Committee
The Board for the Engineering Society of York would like to thank our Corporate and Individual members for your continued support. Last year we canceled the Corporate and Individual dues even as we provided meetings throughout 2020 and 2021. As a Board, we felt that was the right approach given the pressures caused by COVID on all of our members. We are proud to have held almost all of our member meetings last year and are planning for a full slate of meetings and events for the 2021-2022 program year. In order for ESOY to provide the meetings and events you have come to know and maintain a prominent position in the local engineering community, we are asking all of our previous members to renew either your Corporate or Individual memberships for the 2021-2022 program year. Membership applications can be found on our website – https://tesoy.org/membership/membership-applications/. We are extremely grateful for your continued support and look forward to seeing all of you at our events this year.
